A Girl Like Her is a footage drama film based on bullying and it is by far one of the most moving films that I have ever seen. It was amazing, to say the least. I have never cried so much in my entire life. The waterworks could have turned Sahara into a rain forest. And I’m not kidding.
The story revolves around Jessica Burns, a 16-year-old sophomore who is bullied by her ex-best friend Avery Keller. Avery on the other hand never thinks that she is bullying Jessica but believes that she is just joking around. She is too embarrassed to tell anyone and only her best friend, Brian knows about the entire thing. The movie follows all the events that happen after Jessica attempts to commit suicide. The movie follows all the events that happen after Jessica attempts to commit suicide. Avery, even after she finds out about what had happened to Jessica is not really bothered about her and continues to live her life just as she had before. The backstory of Avery also shows that the situation in her house is not exactly well and her parents fight a lot.
Brian who was good with technical stuff decided that he wanted to film everything that was happening with Jessica and he gifted her a spy camera that was disguised as a pin. All the incidents that happened with Jessica were recorded in that camera. When the news of Jessica’s suicide attempt spreads through the school, students start pointing that Avery did torment Jessica, but the former continued to deny this. Brian told the crew that he had evidence that Jessica indeed was being bullied and on the following day the crew asks Avery if she wanted to see the footage and latter agrees and calls them to her house. After Avery watches all the footage she breaks down crying and says that she had been a horrible human being and accepts that she is a bully.
I’m not going to give any more spoilers because I don’t want to ruin the movie for you.
The movie is made in such a manner that you actually feel like you are feelings the various emotions that all the different characters are going through. The footage filming concept is so brilliant that it just adds to the realness of the story. It changes your perspective on things and the movie leaves a deep impression on you.
Personally speaking, I think this a must watch for everybody. The bullies, the bullied and the bystanders. None of the three situations are great to be in and after watching this movie you realize that things can be turned around and situations can be changed. I definitely recommend this movie.
